Bangkok, Thailand – Thailand’s Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) has launched the Global Thai Product Export Management System Project, a new initiative aimed at enhancing the country’s cross-border e-commerce capabilities and helping local businesses expand into international markets.
The project, announced by the DITP under the Ministry of Commerce, is designed to support Thai entrepreneurs, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), by providing an integrated platform for managing overseas trade operations. The system will assist businesses in preparing, managing, and distributing products internationally through functions such as product management, order coordination, and logistics tracking.
The initiative comes as cross-border e-commerce continues to grow as a significant component of global trade, supported by the expansion of online marketplaces, digital payment technologies, and logistics networks. These developments have enabled smaller businesses to reach international customers more efficiently than through traditional export channels.
According to the DITP, the new platform aims to streamline export-related processes and improve operational efficiency for Thai businesses seeking to enter or expand in foreign markets.
“Cross-border e-commerce has become a vital mechanism for business expansion, especially as we see international competitors, such as Chinese businesses, increasingly utilising these channels to enter ASEAN markets,” said Ms. Sunanta, a representative of the initiative. “Thai products must leverage these exact same cross-border channels to access global markets more easily and quickly.”
Ms. Sunanta noted that digital sales channels can also help businesses assess market demand, evaluate product performance, and analyse consumer trends before making significant investment commitments.
She also highlighted the importance of regulatory compliance when operating internationally.
“While cross-border e-commerce provides easier market access, Thai entrepreneurs must prioritise legal and regulatory compliance, particularly trademark registration. Taking these steps seriously is essential to reducing long-term risks and ensuring sustainable growth abroad.”
The DITP said the project reflects its broader efforts to help Thai businesses transition from traditional export models to digital trade strategies. The department expects the initiative to reduce barriers to international expansion, lower operational risks, and strengthen the long-term competitiveness of Thai exporters.
The Global Thai Product Export Management System Project is intended to serve as part of Thailand’s evolving digital trade infrastructure and support the country’s position in the global e-commerce market.
