Singapore – Sumsub, a provider of AI-powered trust infrastructure for compliance operations, has recently announced the launch of the Sumsub Agentic AI Council, an APAC-focused cross-sector forum intended to develop practical frameworks, advance shared best practices and inform responsible agentic AI adoption.

According to Sumsub, the Council is now calling for leaders and experts from policy, academia, technology, industry and civil society to express interest in participating as founding Council advisors. The company said the Council will bring together cross-sector perspectives to examine the conditions needed to deploy agentic AI responsibly, including identity, delegated authority, security, transparency, accountability and oversight.

Sumsub said AI agents are moving from experimental tools into systems capable of planning, making decisions and taking actions on behalf of individuals and organisations. It cited Deloitte research showing that nearly three-quarters of APAC consumers already use AI to discover, compare and research products, and noted that 95% of businesses are already using or piloting multi-step AI systems with limited human input.

The company said recent incidents have shown how AI systems can operate beyond their intended scope or take unexpected actions, underscoring the importance of accountability, transparency and human oversight.

The company pointed to a number of regional policy and standards initiatives as signs of growing attention to agentic AI, including Singapore’s Model AI Governance Framework for Agentic AI, and mainland China’s efforts to develop standards for AI agent identity and interoperability. Sumsub said practical insights from businesses and technical experts will also be important in shaping how agentic AI is deployed, governed and trusted in practice.

The company said it has developed AI capabilities that support both the use and governance of AI agents, including its platform-native AI assistant, Summy AI Copilot; its Know Your Agent (KYA) framework; and MCP integration capabilities, building on its existing work in verification, fraud prevention and compliance.

“The opportunity presented by agentic AI is becoming clearer with every new use case, but the conditions for responsible adoption in environments with real financial, operational and regulatory consequences are still taking shape, even as they become increasingly business-critical,” said Jason Chan, APAC Government Relations Lead at Sumsub.

“Drawing on our work helping organisations build trust and accountability in digital interactions, we have a front-row view of these challenges and see an opportunity to accelerate trusted and scalable AI adoption with the Sumsub Agentic AI Council,” Chan continued.

The Council will work across three pillars. Under Adopt, it will explore responsible and impactful applications of agentic AI across the digital economy, including compliance, fraud prevention, customer experience and operational efficiency.

Under Build, it will look at the technical and operational foundations required for trustworthy AI agents, including agent identity, verifiable credentials, secure architectures, traceability and interoperability.

Meanwhile, under Govern, it will address the policies, standards and accountability mechanisms needed as AI systems gain greater autonomy, aiming to help clarify responsibilities and develop practical governance approaches.

“The conversation around AI often begins with capability. Sustainable adoption, however, will depend not only on what these systems can do, but also on how confidently organisations can deploy and govern them,” said Mick Amelishko, AI Advocate at Sumsub.

“The Council will create a platform where experts from different disciplines can share perspectives and help advance approaches that support the responsible development of agentic AI,” Amelishko continued.

According to Sumsub, founding advisors will contribute to workstreams across the Adopt, Build and Govern pillars, helping develop a practical framework covering AI agent identity, delegated authority, interoperability and auditability. The Council’s first working group is expected to focus on agentic commerce, examining the identity, accountability and oversight considerations that may arise when AI agents act on behalf of consumers and businesses.
