Jakarta, Indonesia – NEC Indonesia has appointed Akifumi Katano as President Director, a move that reflects the company’s plans to strengthen its long-term expansion and innovation agenda in Indonesia, one of Southeast Asia’s largest and fastest-growing economies.
Akifumi joined NEC Corporation in 1997 and has held a range of senior leadership roles during his career. His experience across the business is expected to support NEC Indonesia as it seeks to widen its presence and respond to increasing demand for digital infrastructure and technology services.
“I am honoured to lead NEC Indonesia at such a pivotal point in the nation’s digital transformation,” Akifumi mentioned.
“By leveraging our strengths in secure digital technologies, we aim to support Indonesia’s ambitions for a more connected and sustainable future. I look forward to working closely with our customers and local partners to support their evolving needs and deliver meaningful impact.”
In his new position, he will be responsible for overseeing operations and business development, with particular attention on improving connectivity and helping to reinforce Indonesia’s digital resilience. These priorities are in line with national efforts to accelerate digital transformation, including smart city initiatives and the rollout of more advanced public services.
PT NEC Indonesia has operated in the country for many years, introducing technologies developed by NEC Corporation and adapting them for local commercial and social requirements. The company intends to build on that foundation by increasing activity in several strategic areas.
These include high-capacity communications infrastructure such as submarine cable systems, IoT applications designed to support industrial modernisation in manufacturing, and secure technologies for smart urban environments.
The company mentioned that its work in these sectors is intended to deliver practical benefits for customers while also helping address wider social needs linked to safety, security, fairness and efficiency. It’s also a broader aim to contribute to sustainable development and inclusive economic progress in Indonesia.
