Asia Pacific – Given the substantial growth of data and the emergence of AI experiments, a report by Dell Technologies revealed that more than half of the organisations in Asia Pacific are concerned about their existing data measures.

In this survey, 76% of them expressed their concern about the challenges presented by ransomware threats, given their current data protection methods. 66%, on the other hand, indicate a lack of confidence in their capacity to consistently recover from a catastrophic cyberattack.

Despite these concerns, 54% of the companies responded that they invested more resources in preventing cyberattacks than in recovering from them.

Apart from this, an analysis of the usefulness and limitations of insurance policies as a financial safeguard showed that 95% of organisations acknowledge this utilization. However, they noted the various conditions that may restrict the coverage.

The report indicates that 88% of organisations had to make payments to regain access to their encrypted data.

Additionally, the study also explores the influence of generative AI on the cybersecurity threat landscape and anticipated data protection needs.

Among the findings, 46% believe that generative AI will positively impact their cybersecurity posture. However, 89% agree that generative AI is expected to generate extensive new data and elevate the value of specific data types, necessitating the evaluation of future data protection strategies.

Talking about the report, Lucas Salter, general manager, data protection solutions at Dell Technologies, Asia Pacific, Japan, and Greater China, said, “With massive data growth, unique data mobility needs, and increased experimentations with generative AI, organisations in Asia Pacific and Japan must juggle multiple fronts to effectively protect their data.”

“In times where cyberattacks are growing in frequency and complexity, customers require a comprehensive data protection strategy incorporating a range of solutions to boost their cyber resilience,” he further explained.

Organisations affected by the vulnerability to data loss from cyberattacks entail the pandemic’s effect on the surge in remote work. This led to 83%, a rise from the previous 76% rate.

On top of this, they are still adopting a more proactive approach to bolster their cyber resilience. Recent trends further indicate that 50% are utilizing professional services to augment resources, 52% are conducting routine cyber recovery testing, and 42% are implementing a cyber vault featuring both physical and logical separation from production data.
