Singapore — Mastercard will undergo a leadership change in its Asia Pacific operations as Ari Sarker steps down as president, Asia Pacific, at the end of 2025. Following his tenure, he will take on an advisory role, concentrating on strategic projects and providing support during the transition.
Effective January 1, 2026, Richard Wormald (Rich), currently division president, Australasia, will assume the role of president, Asia Pacific. Rich has overseen Mastercard’s operations in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands, with a focus on growth and stakeholder engagement.
Rich mentioned that he is honoured to step into the role and build on the foundation that Ari has created.
“Asia Pacific is a dynamic and diverse region, and I look forward to working with our teams and partners to keep growing and delivering meaningful impact,” Rich said.
Leading in the region for more than a decade, Ari reflected back on his endeavor with Mastercard and how he grew its presence, strengthened partnerships, and grew its business in the Asia Pacific.
“It’s been an incredible journey leading Mastercard in Asia Pacific. I’m proud of what we’ve built together and grateful to the teams, partners, and customers who’ve made it all possible,” Ari said.
Ari and Rich are expected to work together over the coming months to ensure continuity and engage with stakeholders across the region. Mastercard commented the transition reflects its commitment to maintaining strong leadership in Asia Pacific as it continues to pursue growth and innovation in the region.
Also part of the leadership change is Paul Monnington who will join Mastercard in January 2026 as division president, Australasia. Paul previously led Woolworths’ Wpay business and held senior roles at Woolworths Group and National Australia Bank.
He will oversee markets including Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands, and report to Wormald as part of the Asia Pacific Leadership Team.
