Singapore – Hitachi Vantara announced that it is establishing a strategic partnership with Supermicro, a provider of IT solutions for AI, cloud, storage and edge computing.

The collaboration aims to combine Supermicro’s GPU and AI compute technologies with Hitachi Vantara’s Virtual Storage Platform One (VSP One) to provide enterprises with enhanced performance and scalability for data-intensive workloads, mission-critical operations and AI-driven applications.

Both parties are finalising an agreement that would allow Supermicro to distribute VSP One to its clients, while Hitachi Vantara would offer Supermicro servers, GPUs, storage systems and related hardware through existing commercial channels.

“The convergence of Supermicro’s leadership in AI compute with the scale and resilience of our VSP One platform marks an important step in building the foundation that will guide the future of enterprise AI,” Sheila Rohra, chief executive officer at Hitachi Vantara, commented.

She added, “As data volumes explode, bringing compute and data closer together will enable scalable workload support without disruption.”

Organisations worldwide are facing increasing challenges in managing growing data volumes and the rising demand for AI-driven insights. A recent study indicates that most enterprises are already employing data lakehouses for AI model development, with a growing proportion expected to run analytics on these platforms within the next few years.

Despite this trend, many continue to encounter obstacles such as fragmented data systems, slow data transfer, and high operational costs that complicate AI scalability. The partnership seeks to address these issues by integrating compute and data systems, supported by enterprise-grade service, to help businesses simplify their infrastructure and improve the efficiency of AI deployments.

Central to the collaboration is VSP One, Hitachi Vantara’s unified data platform that integrates block, file, object and software-defined storage within a single architecture. The solution supports multiple enterprise needs, including an all-flash configuration through VSP One Block, which delivers high throughput and low latency suitable for AI training and mission-critical workloads.

VSP One SDS extends these capabilities to hybrid cloud environments through software-defined deployment, while VSP One Object offers built-in compatibility with Amazon S3 Tables and advanced data intelligence features. This enables organisations to convert unstructured data into structured formats for direct analytics processing without the need for complex data migration, supporting the evolution of modern data lakehouse architectures.

The platform also underpins Hitachi iQ, the company’s AI and data orchestration suite, which is designed to enhance data workflows for advanced analytics and AI workloads. By integrating VSP One’s unified data services with Supermicro’s high-performance compute systems and GPU acceleration, Hitachi iQ aims to improve data management, governance and protection while ensuring closer alignment between compute and data processes.

“Our AI-optimised compute and storage servers leverage advanced GPUs, CPUs, and NVMEs,” Vik Malyala, president and managing director, EMEA and senior vice president of technology and AI at Supermicro, stated.

“Combining Hitachi Vantara’s enterprise data management system and iQ portfolio options will support compute-intensive workloads for dynamic vertical applications, providing better performance and efficiency for customers.”

The partnership will make a range of technologies available through global distribution channels, including VSP One Block, VSP One SDS and VSP One Object. These can be managed via the VSP 360 unified control plane, which offers tools to monitor system performance, storage utilisation and overall operational health.
