Singapore – Financial services firm DBS Group Holdings has recently announced the appointment of veteran technologist Eugene Huang as the company’s new chief information officer, effective today, May 10, 2024.

Eugene will join the DBS group executive committee as a member and report to Piyush Gupta, the company’s chief executive officer.

With over 36 years of experience, he joined the company from Ping An Group, where he spearheaded a team of 22,000 employees providing a full suite of IT services, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, middleware, and customer-facing applications for all of Ping An’s businesses. He also served as the chairman and CEO of Ping An Technology, where he handled P&L responsibilities.

Prior to his latest role at Ping An Group, Eugene also held positions such as deputy general manager, chief technology officer, and chief operating officer at OneConnect Financial Technology. For these roles, he was integral to the company’s listing on the New York Stock Exchange in 2019, just four years after its inception.

He spent the early years of his career in New York, working at Salomon Smith Barney and Credit Suisse First Boston. He later held positions at Citigroup and HSBC.

Piyush Gupta, chief executive officer at DBS, said, “Eugene possesses a rare blend of deep business experience and technology expertise, as well as international exposure, which will serve DBS well as we continue to enhance our system resiliency while innovating for the future.”

“His immediate focus will be to build on the work the bank has done since last year to strengthen our technology resiliency. He will be a strong addition to our leadership bench, and I look forward to his contributions as we continue to deliver on our promise of providing reliable and seamless banking to our customers,” he further explained.

Eugene will assume the CIO role from Han Kwee Juan, who has been serving as both DBS acting CIO and Singapore country head since November 2023. Subsequently, Han will resume his full-time role as Singapore Country Head starting June 1st.
