Cloudflare, Mastercard to strengthen cybersecurity for critical infrastructure, including small businesses

Singapore – Cloudflare and Mastercard announced a strategic collaboration aimed at expanding cyber protection for small enterprises, essential services, and public sector bodies. The initiative is intended to support organisations in addressing current and emerging digital threats while continuing to adopt new technologies and scale operations.

The partnership will combine attack surface intelligence from Mastercard’s Recorded Future and RiskRecon platforms with Cloudflare’s application security capabilities. Together, the companies plan to deliver an integrated offering designed to help organisations identify previously unknown internet-facing assets, evaluate exposure to risk and implement protective measures across web-based environments.

As organisations increasingly rely on cloud services, third-party vendors, legacy systems and decentralised IT tools, visibility across digital estates can become fragmented. This can result in overlooked vulnerabilities and expanded exposure to cyber incidents.

“This partnership brings together the best in cyber defence so that these underserved organisations don’t fall victim to the growing number of cyberattacks,” Stephanie Cohen, chief strategy officer at Cloudflare, commented.

“For small businesses, critical infrastructure, and governments, a cyberattack is more than a technical hurdle. It is an existential threat. Often considered ‘target rich but resource poor,’ these organisations are strategic targets and are often attacked at a greater rate than global enterprises.”

Through the collaboration, users are expected to gain the ability to discover domains and software components connected to the public internet, including assets that may not have been formally catalogued.

Where gaps in protection are identified, organisations will be able to apply Cloudflare’s security services to mitigate potential threats. The combined tools will also offer continuous assessments of security posture, including graded evaluations based on factors such as software flaws, authentication gaps, exposed infrastructure and third-party dependencies.

“Our collaboration with Cloudflare propels our mission to secure the digital ecosystem in partnership with governments and other key players, empowering businesses to focus on what matters most: their productivity and growth,” Johan Gerber, global head of security solutions at Mastercard, shared.

“With small businesses accounting for about half of the world’s GDP, closing the resilience gap is critical to securing the foundation of our global economy.”

In addition, organisations will be able to activate security controls directly in response to identified issues. Measures such as web application firewall deployment, encryption, and automated protective mechanisms can be implemented to reduce exposure and strengthen resilience.

The collaboration reflects broader efforts to enhance cybersecurity standards for critical infrastructure and smaller organisations, which often face resource constraints while remaining attractive targets for cybercriminal activity.

By aligning threat intelligence with protective infrastructure, the companies aim to contribute to improved resilience across the digital ecosystem.
