8x8, PLDT Enterprise introduce Silent Mobile Authentication for Philippine businesses

Manila, Philippines – 8×8, Inc. has introduced its Silent Mobile Authentication capability in the Philippines through a collaboration with PLDT Enterprise. The launch follows the rollout by PLDT Enterprise of SmartSafe SilentAccess, a core offering within its SmartSafe API portfolio designed to enable rapid and secure mobile user verification.

The service confirms user identities using mobile network and SIM-level data rather than manual inputs. By embedding SmartSafe SilentAccess into the 8×8 Connect platform, the new authentication capability allows organisations to verify users without relying on OTPs, removing the need for code entry and helping to minimise delays and abandonment during digital interactions.

“Digital transactions are growing rapidly across the Philippines, alongside increasingly sophisticated fraud attempts,” Igor Mostovoy, product director of CPaaS at 8×8, Inc., stated.

“In partnership with PLDT, we’re equipping businesses with innovative tools to protect their customers and maintain trust as digital adoption grows, managing authentication quickly without heavy development effort.”

Mobile-related fraud continues to rise in the Philippines, with a significant proportion of consumers reporting previous exposure to scams, exceeding regional averages. At the same time, the growing use of SMS and mobile messaging has increased dependence on mobile numbers for authentication and identity checks.

“SmartSafe SilentAccess represents an important step forward in strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure,” Armie Sason, head of key industries group 2 at PLDT Enterprise, shared.

“At PLDT Enterprise, our shared commitment with 8×8 is to deliver secure and seamless verification for millions of mobile users. Together, we are enabling enterprises to protect their customers, reduce fraud, and support the Philippines’ ongoing digital transformation.”

While SMS-based verification remains common, the silent authentication approach provides an alternative method that operates in the background, using network intelligence to validate users.

The solution is intended to address prevalent fraud risks, including identity spoofing and SIM-swap incidents, while streamlining access to digital services. Early trials have indicated improved verification completion rates and reduced drop-off when compared with traditional password or OTP-based processes. This approach enables enterprises to strengthen security controls while improving the overall customer journey and reducing operational complexity.

Through the partnership, 8×8 and PLDT Enterprise aim to support organisations across the Philippines as digital transactions expand, offering a method of user verification designed to be both secure and unobtrusive, and aligned with broader efforts to enhance trust and resilience within the country’s digital ecosystem.
