India – Amazon, a multinational tech firm, has recently announced the extension of its agreement with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, with the goal of accelerating e-commerce export growth from India.
This recently expanded collaboration includes the addition of specialised training programs in 47 districts, the integration of Amazon’s Export Navigator tool within the DGFT Trade Connect portal, and the formation of Expert Communities to support MSMEs through localised offline networks.
Under the initiative, both companies aim to support the country’s goal of achieving $200-300b in exports by 2030. As part of this effort, Amazon will embed its Export Navigator tool within DGFT’s Trade Connect portal to assist SMBs and entrepreneurs in navigating export compliance requirements.
Amazon’s Export Navigator is a one-stop dashboard designed to help exporters understand, manage, and comply with regulatory requirements at both origin (India) and destination markets. This solution is part of Amazon’s mission to make exports easier for small businesses and startups in India by addressing challenges including cross-border compliance, logistics, and payments.
The collaboration will further take advantage of diverse event formats, offering MSMEs guidance on expanding product selection and scaling export operations.
This move is set to utilise Amazon’s global reach and e-commerce export expertise alongside DGFT’s local knowledge to create new opportunities for Indian sellers in international markets.
Additionally, the Department of Commerce, through the DGFT, will collaborate directly with states/UTs and districts to establish institutional mechanisms for facilitating exports of identified products/services.
Said move is designed to boost manufacturing and exports in urban areas while also stimulating economic activity in rural districts.
Santosh Sarangi, additional secretary and director general of DGFT, said, “Our continued collaboration with Amazon is a significant step in realising the vision of making each district an export hub. Building on our initial success, we are expanding our focus to 47 districts to support more MSMEs to access global markets.”
“This partnership has already benefitted over 3,000 MSMEs, and we are excited to see its growth. This aligns perfectly with our goal of enabling $200-300 billion in exports from India by 2030, showcasing the best of ‘Make in India’ to the world,” added Sarangi.
Meanwhile, Bhupen Wakankar, director of global trade at Amazon India, also commented, “We are excited to extend our collaboration with the DGFT to support MSMEs and entrepreneurs across India to create robust global businesses and contribute to India’s overall exports.”
“Our association since 2023 has shown promising results, and we are looking forward to expanding our combined focus to 47 districts this year. Amazon’s focus remains on making exports simpler and more accessible to businesses of all sizes as we work toward our goal of enabling $80 billion in cumulative ecommerce exports from India by 2030,” he concluded.
