Singapore – Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, has recently introduced its latest container computer service to the global market. This new solution is designed to simplify and optimise workload deployment through container technology.
Using Kubernetes as its interface, Alibaba Cloud Container Compute Service (ACS) provides a serverless container service that meets container standards while also eliminating the need for managing nodes and clusters. Said approach reduces costs and technical barriers associated with container deployment.
It also enables customers to pay-as-you-go, helping them avoid over-allocation and scale on demand. This move further allows the optimisation of costs during periods of high and low usage.
According to the firm, the said product aims to address the complexities associated with Kubernetes configuration, resource management, and on-demand elasticity. By integrating containers and resources based on Alibaba Cloud’s Shenlong architecture to allow maximum scaling of computing resources, it further offers a solution capable of reducing computing power costs by up to 55%.
Furthermore, the product supports seamless cloud migration for open-source platforms and proprietary applications alike, with full compatibility with Kubernetes.
Users can also continue using familiar Kubernetes management methods and file formats. By eliminating the need for pre-purchasing nodes, ACS allows users to specify workload requirements, automatically matching them with the necessary compute resources, thereby lowering infrastructure costs and maintenance demands.
Jiangwei Jiang, general manager of infrastructure products at Alibaba Cloud, commented, “As the deployment of workloads on container technology becomes increasingly prevalent, we developed a more accessible solution that would anticipate the evolving needs of our customers.”
Jiang further continued, “ACS represents a big step forward in how businesses can utilise container technology, offering cost efficiency and ease of use to support businesses unleashing productivity.”
“ACS has transformed the container orchestration service into a comprehensive computing product. Users benefit by paying only for the compute capacity that they use,” he concluded.
Container technology offers a form of virtualisation by bundling programs with their required dependencies. This simplifies consistent application deployment across various hardware and operating environments. In terms of efficiency and resource optimisation, some of the benefits include having containers as a mainstream development method.
