Singapore – Accenture has reached an agreement to purchase Ookla, a provider of network performance insights, benchmarking tools and connectivity analytics. The planned acquisition is intended to enhance Accenture’s ability to support communications service providers, cloud platform operators, and enterprises in improving the performance of Wi-Fi and 5G networks that underpin modern digital infrastructure.
Network performance data has increasingly become relevant beyond the telecommunications sector. As AI technologies expand across industries, information collected from network, device and application layers is being used to support activities such as fraud detection in financial services, connected home monitoring in utilities and logistics or traffic optimisation in retail environments.
Ookla’s technology platform records extensive information during connectivity tests, capturing hundreds of performance indicators that can be analysed to generate operational insights.
“Without the ability to measure performance, organisations cannot optimise experience, revenue, or security,” Julie Sweet, chair and CEO of Accenture, stated.
“By acquiring Ookla, we will help our clients across business and government scale AI safely and build the trusted data foundations they need to deliver the reliable, seamless connectivity that creates value.”
Ookla develops widely used connectivity measurement products, including Speedtest, Downdetector, Ekahau and RootMetrics. These services provide different forms of visibility into network performance, ranging from consumer-initiated testing to controlled measurement and Wi-Fi design tools. Accenture intends to integrate these data assets and analytical capabilities into its consulting and technology services to strengthen enterprise network intelligence offerings.
The acquisition is expected to support communications service providers in managing infrastructure planning and performance benchmarking through real-time network information and predictive modelling.
Cloud platform operators and hyperscale providers are expected to use the data to monitor the resilience of AI infrastructure and edge computing environments, which increasingly handle large volumes of inference workloads. Enterprises deploying private 5G or advanced Wi-Fi networks may also benefit from specialised diagnostic and design tools associated with the Ekahau portfolio.
“Joining Accenture will allow us to scale our premier network data business across the world’s largest enterprises and accelerate our goal of creating better connected experiences,” Stephen Bye, CEO of Ookla, commented.
“Our combined capabilities will enable us to more effectively serve CSPs, AI infrastructure providers, edge data centres, and enterprise networks. Together, we will redefine how the world measures, understands and experiences connectivity.”
Additionally, Accenture also mentioned that incorporating Ookla’s network measurement capabilities will contribute to broader data and AI initiatives across enterprise and public sector clients, particularly those seeking to develop reliable digital infrastructure and improve connectivity experiences.
Completion of the transaction remains subject to customary closing requirements, including regulatory approvals. Financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
