Singapore – In a concerted effort to strengthen the country’s cyber defence, NTT DATA, alongside NTT Security Holdings, has announced that it has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore.

This strategic agreement intends to foster cybersecurity collaboration, encompassing the exchange of intelligence on cyber threats, online scams, and vulnerabilities, which also includes technical cooperation to develop cybersecurity solutions through research, supporting the Singapore Government in enhancing its national cyber defence.

As part of the partnership, CSA and NTT will also conduct regular reviews to evaluate opportunities, risks, and challenges related to emerging technologies such as AI and quantum security.

Furthermore, it also enhances NTT DATA’s commitment to Singapore, emphasising talent development and sustainable innovation.

Talking about the partnership, Chua Kuan Seah, deputy chief executive (development) at CSA, remarked, “Cybersecurity is a team effort. It is therefore essential for CSA to collaborate with industry players to leverage their capabilities and deep domain expertise to jointly shape the digital terrain for Singapore in our endeavour to protect and defend Singapore’s cyberspace.”

“Our partnership with NTT through this MoU – our first with a company headquartered in Japan – forms the foundations of a strong public-private cybersecurity community to facilitate information sharing, enhance our situational awareness of cyber threats and incidents, and deliver better cybersecurity outcomes for Singapore and our stakeholders,” explained Chua.

Png Kim Meng, chief executive officer at NTT Data Inc. Singapore said, “The MoU will serve as a crucial first step in our efforts to build a resilient digital economy amidst the ever-evolving landscape. It is imperative that, in an increasingly digitally connected world, businesses are adequately equipped with the right capabilities to cope with the cybersecurity risks emerging from today’s technological advancements.”

“Our collaboration aims to strengthen the nation’s cyber defence by combining NTT DATA’s tech expertise with the intelligence from CSA to provide robust solutions that safeguard our critical infrastructure and sensitive data. Together, we aspire to set new standards in cybersecurity, ensuring a secure digital landscape for the nation,” he added.

Shinichi Yokohama, CEO at NTT Security Holdings, also commented, “NTT Security Holdings is committed to contributing to global cybersecurity. This MoU is an example of the company’s proactive collaboration with global cybersecurity stakeholders.”

The said initiative was announced at the NTT’s tech summit, IGNITE 2024, by Tan Kiat How, senior minister of state for communications and information, Singapore. Additionally, the MoU was signed by Chua Kuan Seah from CSA, Png Kim Meng from NTT DATA Singapore, and Mihoko Matsubara from NTT Holdings, representing NTT Security Holdings Corporation.
