Singapore – Resorts World Sentosa will become the first tourism destination in Singapore to adopt predictive optimisation technologies for district cooling, according to Honeywell Technologies and the resort operator. The two companies announced the co-innovation initiative in Singapore on 4 November 2026.

The systems are designed to anticipate cooling demand, reduce energy use and maintain guest comfort across the resort. According to the companies, cooling is one of the largest, costliest and most complex energy needs for major resorts.

Anticipating demand and coordinating equipment before conditions change can reduce wasted energy while keeping hotels, attractions and public spaces consistently comfortable, the companies said.

The initiative comprises three programmes, the first of which applies AI to heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. The AI will adjust these systems continuously to use less energy while keeping indoor spaces comfortable.

According to the companies, this solution is already deployed in Resorts World Convention Centre and Illumination’s Minion Land at Universal Studios Singapore.

The second programme targets the district cooling plant, which will forecast how much cooling the resort needs and decide which equipment should run, and when. As a result, RWS expects to avoid producing more chilled water than necessary and to operate the whole plant more efficiently.

The third programme centres on Forge, Honeywell Technologies’ proprietary intelligence platform. It will bring energy data together and turn it into insights that highlight where energy may be wasted, giving facilities teams recommendations they can act on across the resort.

The projects build on a 2023 connected-building deployment, which Honeywell Technologies says put RWS ahead of the tourism sector in adopting cloud technology for large-scale building management. The new programmes will add artificial intelligence, advanced analytics and future autonomous-building capabilities, while supporting RWS’ carbon-neutrality ambition for 2030.

To develop and test the technologies, both companies will draw on the Honeywell Technologies Singapore Sustainable Buildings Centre of Excellence. The centre was established with support from the Singapore Economic Development Board.

Outlining the thinking behind the project, Mr Munish Suri, President, Building Automation, India and APAC, Honeywell Technologies, said, “The next frontier in building efficiency is not simply automating individual systems such as HVAC, chillers and district energy infrastructure. It is enabling interconnected systems to work intelligently together, continuously and proactively optimising energy use as conditions change.”

He continued, “Resorts World Sentosa is demonstrating how sustainability and operational excellence can reinforce, rather than compete with, the guest experience. By combining RWS’ deep operational expertise with Honeywell Technologies’ capabilities in AI, energy optimisation and intelligent buildings, our three co-innovation concepts are putting this vision into practice. This represents an important step in RWS’ journey from automation to autonomy.”

From the resort’s side, Mr Kess Chiang, Senior Vice President, Resort Services, Resorts World Sentosa, said, “Facilities management goes beyond fixing things when they break. It means staying ahead – using technology to make the resort more comfortable, reliable and efficient for every guest.”

He further shared, “A simple example is room and venue temperature. It should adjust itself to humidity, airflow and changing weather conditions, rather than rely on a fixed setting. The goal is that our guests should never feel too hot or too cold, while using only the energy that is needed. That is how facilities management can lead from the front in improving guest comfort and supporting responsible growth.”
