Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Tune Talk, a digital-first mobile network operator in Malaysia, has entered into a collaboration with Mastercard to provide Mastercard ID Theft Protection to its subscriber base, aiming to strengthen personal data security amid rising levels of cybercrime and identity fraud across the country.
The initiative is introduced against a backdrop of increasing reported cyber incidents, with data breach cases rising sharply year on year and financial losses linked to online fraud reaching billions of ringgit in recent years. As digital services become more embedded in daily life, concerns around personal information security have grown more pronounced.
The identity protection service enables users to track their personal data across the surface, deep and dark web, issuing alerts when potentially suspicious activity is identified. Where a possible compromise is detected, the service also offers step-by-step support to assist users in managing recovery and reducing potential harm. This approach is intended to move beyond awareness by offering practical tools to address identity-related risks.
“Malaysians live, work, and transact in an increasingly digital world, but the pace of cyber threats has accelerated just as quickly,” Gurtaj Singh Padda, co-founder and CEO of Tune Talk, commented.
“This collaboration with Mastercard is about delivering practical protection—not just awareness—so our subscribers can enjoy digital convenience with greater confidence and peace of mind.”
Malaysia’s digital footprint continues to expand, with more than 33 million internet users and over four-fifths of the population active on social media platforms. As online banking, e-commerce, and mobile services become more commonplace, identity theft and digital fraud have increasingly affected a broad cross-section of users rather than isolated groups.
National data indicates a substantial surge in reported data theft within a short period, highlighting the scale at which personal information is being targeted. At the same time, identity-related scams and online fraud have resulted in significant economic losses, impacting individuals across different demographics and levels of digital engagement.
“Mastercard is dedicated to strengthening Malaysia’s digital ecosystem through innovative cybersecurity solutions and strategic collaborations,” Beena Pothen, country manager of Malaysia and Brunei at Mastercard, shared.
“By collaborating with Tune Talk, Mastercard is committed to helping Malaysians safeguard their personal data, strengthen trust in digital services, and respond proactively to evolving cyber threats.”
Through this collaboration, Mastercard extends the reach of its cybersecurity and fraud prevention capabilities within Malaysia’s mobile ecosystem. The company’s global security systems analyse tens of millions of risk signals daily and have contributed to the prevention of substantial potential fraud losses in recent years through the use of advanced analytics and artificial intelligence.
By working with Tune Talk, the initiative seeks to support safer digital participation, reinforce trust in online services and help users respond more effectively to evolving cyber threats.
