Singapore – In an effort to streamline the recognition of authentic government communication, the Singapore government has recently announced the launch of a new single SMS sender ID.

This solution, named gov.sg. will enable the public to anticipate SMS messages from government agencies under a unified sender ID instead of individual sender IDs under various government agencies.

It will also help them protect themselves from government official impersonation scams and malicious efforts aimed at eroding public trust in government communications.

In terms of safeguarding the sender ID, the government has further partnered with SMS aggregators and telecommunication providers in Singapore. They have also established partnerships with their respective sub-brands operating in the country to prevent messages from being spoofed.

Talking about the launch, Sim Feng-Ji, deputy secretary at Smart Nation Group, said, “This consolidated gov.sg SMS sender ID is designed to give the public added confidence and ease of mind when it comes to identifying legitimate SMSes from government agencies. It exemplifies the government’s commitment in stamping out malicious attempts that undermine the public’s trust in government communications.”

The gov.sg was rolled out on June 18, 2024, and is expected to be fully implemented by July 1, 2024, across all government agencies. All government SMS messages will now originate from a unified gov.sg SMS sender ID.
