Airwallex acquires Paynuri payments provider to support cross-border growth for businesses

Singapore – Airwallex has acquired Paynuri Co. Ltd., a South Korean company holding payment gateway and prepaid electronic payment instrument licences. The acquisition provides Airwallex with the regulatory approvals needed to deliver locally licensed financial services in Korea, supporting domestic companies expanding overseas and international firms operating in the market.

Following the transaction, South Korean businesses will gain access to Airwallex’s financial platform for managing cross-border operations, multiple currencies and international payments. Planned services include multi-currency business accounts, foreign exchange and international transfers, payment acceptance across online and in-store channels, and tools for managing corporate spending through a single system.

The acquisition follows Airwallex’s recent series G funding round, which valued the company at approximately US$8b and is being used to expand licensed financial infrastructure across global priority markets such APAC, including South Korea.

“This acquisition marks a pivotal milestone for Airwallex as we expand the global reach of our financial platform,” Arnold Chan, general manager of APAC at Airwallex, stated.

“Korea’s fast-growing ecommerce, creative and entertainment sectors present immense opportunities for Korean businesses on the global stage. Our goal is to support these  businesses with a more efficient solution to expand beyond borders.”

The move reflects growing international demand for Korean ecommerce, entertainment and consumer brands, creating new opportunities for local companies to scale globally. Airwallex aims to simplify financial operations and reduce complexity for businesses participating in this growth.

“We believe Airwallex’s entry will strengthen the financial operating environment for both Korean and global companies in the market,” Jihyung Lee, president & CEO of Invest Seoul, commented.

“Invest Seoul will continue to collaborate closely with Airwallex to accelerate the digital  transformation journey for Korean businesses and global companies.”

The deal strengthens Airwallex’s presence across Asia, complementing its operations in markets such as Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.

In the APAC region, the company reported strong year-on-year growth in revenue and transaction volumes in 2025, while globally it reached US$1.2b in annualised revenue and processed US$266b in annualised transaction volume by December 2025.

Airwallex also plans to expand its local operations in Korea, with hiring across multiple functions during 2026.
