Singapore – Network for Electronic Transfers (NETS), a payment services group, has launched its latest payment solution, allowing merchants in Singapore to use their Android smart devices as payment terminals. This technology, introduced as NETS SoftPOS, is designed to facilitate contactless payment transactions and can be easily downloaded from the Google Play Store.

Compatible with most Android devices, the solution supports both single- and dual-screen POS hardware and tablets, offering merchants the flexibility to use dedicated devices rather than their personal mobile phones.

The solution further allows merchants to accept a variety of contactless transactions, such as card, QR, and mobile payments. It also uses card payments, including the NETS ATM/debit card, the NETS Prepaid Card, and major international card schemes.

Beyond these efforts, QR payments can be processed using DBS, OCBC, and UOB banking apps, as well as various overseas banking and wallet apps from countries like China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Lawrence Chan, group CEO at NETS, explained, “With NETS SoftPOS, we are empowering merchants with a cost-efficient payment solution to accept payments anytime and anywhere at no incremental cost. By leveraging their existing smart devices, including mobile phones and tablets, we are providing merchants with payment options while maintaining high security standards for contactless transactions.”

“We are excited to offer this innovative solution as part of our commitment to value-add to our merchants,” said Chan.

The strategic launch intends to reduce entry barriers for merchants wanting to address the increasing consumer demand for contactless payment options. It also eliminates the need for additional terminals or hardware and supports flexibility for on-the-go payment acceptance.
