Asia Pacific – Google Cloud, a software development firm, has recently announced the appointment of Rahul Sharma as the new managing director of its public sector business in Asia Pacific.

In this new role, Rahul brings nearly three decades of experience, with previous leadership positions at Amazon Web Services (AWS) Public Sector Business for Asia Pacific, AWS India, and IBM.

He also became part of the NASSCOM’s executive council from 2019 to 2023, where he spearheaded the development of the National COVID response platform as well as the organisation’s efforts to upskill the Indian IT workforce.

Apart from this, he further served as chair of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) IT and ITES Council from 2022 to 2023.

Now as the company’s new managing director, Rahul will be reporting to Karan Bajwa, vice president at Google Cloud in Asia Pacific. He is also set to lead the company’s strategy and execution for partnering with government and education organisations to advance their digital roadmaps.

Following the appointment, Karan Bajwa, vice president, Asia Pacific at Google Cloud, said, “The industry at large is at a pivotal moment with AI, and we’re delivering the benefits of AI to our government, healthcare, and education communities not just with our best-in-class technology but also our experience supporting skilling initiatives at scale.”

“With Rahul at the helm of our public sector organisation, we look forward to driving even more transformation technology partnerships with regional governments and helping them advance their digital roadmaps,” added Karan.

Also speaking about his appointment, Sharma said, “Google Cloud has been a force for change in tech-enabled public sector progress across Asia Pacific, with clear and unique differentiators across infrastructure, data, AI, security, communication, and collaboration.”

“These are critical elements to any public sector organisation’s ability to digitalise its operations. I’m excited to join the team and bring the Google magic to help governments meet their mission,” he concluded.

This strategic appointment follows the company’s commitment to helping public sector agencies modernise their operations to provide citizen-centric digital services through cloud and AI solutions as well as enhance its cybersecurity.
