Philippines – Only 1% of organisations in the Philippines are equipped to counter cyber threats at a mature level, according to a recent report by software development company Cisco.

The said figure is notably lower than the global average of 3%, indicating the country’s lag in cyber resilience despite increased awareness.

In this report, Cisco observed the gap between confidence and readiness, noting companies might be overly confident in their ability to handle cybersecurity threats.

This implies that they may not be properly evaluating the full extent of the challenges their organisations encounter.

Specifically, around 64% of surveyed companies in the Philippines were noted at the beginner level of readiness, which also indicates that the majority of the firms are still establishing their digital defences.

The said lack of readiness, in this regard, stems from the complexity of cybersecurity infrastructure and the mistaken belief that having a solution in place guarantees safety from the said threats.

In addition, the report highlighted the importance of readiness, with 67% of respondents indicating that a cybersecurity incident is likely to disrupt their business in the next 12–24 months.

Commenting on the report, Zaza Soriano-Nicart, managing director at Cisco Philippines, said, “The threat landscape today is more complicated than ever, and organisations globally, including those in the Philippines, continue to lag in their cyber resilience.”

“Companies need to adopt a platform approach that will provide a simple, secure, single pane of glass view into their entire architecture to strengthen their security posture and best take advantage of the opportunities that come with emerging technologies,” added Zaza.
