Singapore – WEX and Mastercard have announced a partnership to build what they describe as Asia-Pacific’s first unified fleet payments network, combining fuel, maintenance, tolling and parking costs into a single payment experience.
The companies said the programme is projected to process billions of dollars in annual transactions as it expands across key regional markets. They did not name those markets in the announcement.
The initiative targets a persistent problem for fleet managers, who often track fuel, maintenance, tolling and parking spend across separate payment systems. According to the companies, that split makes it harder to see the full picture and adds work when reconciling bills.
To address this, the network will pair Mastercard’s global payments network with WEX’s more than 40 years of fleet management expertise. Mastercard’s network processed 175 billion transactions in 2025, the companies said, while WEX describes itself as one of the world’s leading issuers of virtual cards for travel payments.
The partnership rests on three pillars. The first is a unified payments and data infrastructure that replaces fragmented legacy systems and brings traditional fleet costs together with broader business expenses in one view.
The second is real-time, configurable spend controls and automated insights embedded directly into business workflows. It also enables reporting controls on line-item data such as fuel types and litres.
The third covers mixed-energy fleets, allowing businesses to manage traditional fuel, hybrid and electric vehicles under a single account with one consolidated invoice.
The announcement comes as Asia-Pacific emerges as the fastest-growing fleet management region globally, according to figures cited by the companies. Fleet-card transaction volumes in the region are estimated at about US$310 billion in 2025, or 31% of global volumes, and are projected to grow 14.3% a year through 2030.
Even so, the companies said fleet operators across the region continue to face friction from fragmented data and siloed, legacy payment systems.
Matt Arthur, Vice President and General Manager, APAC Mobility of WEX, said, “In 2026, the competitive advantage for fleets is found in simplicity. WEX is already a global pioneer in travel and corporate virtual payments; by joining forces with Mastercard in this new capacity, we are bringing that same engine of innovation to the APAC mobility sector.”
Arthur added, “For decades, fleets have used one card for fuel and a patchwork of systems for everything else, leaving fleet managers to stitch it all together. This strategic partnership creates a smarter infrastructure that allows our customers to manage the transition to hybrid fleets and navigate economic volatility with total visibility over their operations.”
Anouska Ladds, Executive Vice President, Commercial and New Payment Flows, Asia Pacific, Mastercard, said, “Transportation is a critical growth engine. It sits at the center of how people and goods move, especially in a diverse region like Asia-Pacific.”
Ladds added, “Our collaboration with WEX is an essential example of how we scale with impact. By combining our global network with their deep industry expertise, we’re helping businesses move faster, operate smarter and prepare for what’s next. Together, we’re setting a new standard for a future-ready mobility ecosystem.”
The tie-up builds on a decades-long relationship between the two companies. WEX says it ranks first globally by volume of virtual card travel payments, powering 50% of all virtual card payments in the travel sector.
