Singapore – Progress Software has added new capabilities to its Agentic RAG platform, enabling AI agents to retrieve information across business systems, access live data sources and deliver responses through Microsoft Teams.
The latest release introduces a native Microsoft Teams application, a Smart Agent for multi-step information retrieval and a WordPress plugin designed to improve content ingestion and governance. The updates aim to help organisations connect enterprise knowledge to AI applications without rebuilding existing deployments.
As businesses expand the use of AI agents beyond basic chat functions, developers face the challenge of connecting systems and maintaining custom orchestration logic. AI tools that rely solely on pre-indexed content can also produce incomplete or outdated responses when information changes or is spread across multiple platforms.
“Organisations across Asia Pacific are navigating rapid growth, evolving customer expectations and increasing operational complexity,” said John Yang, Vice President, Asia-Pacific at Progress Software.
“AI has the potential to help address all three, but only when it can draw on the knowledge that already exists across the business. We believe the next phase of AI adoption will be defined less by the models themselves and more by how effectively organisations can put their knowledge to work,” Yang continued.
The platform supports two approaches to accessing information. Organisations can pre-index content in a governed Knowledge Box and keep it synchronised for retrieval, or use the Smart Agent’s native Model Context Protocol (MCP) support to access live business systems and web sources when a query is made.
The combination is designed to provide current information from multiple sources while retaining governance controls and reducing the need for separate integrations.
“The next phase of enterprise AI will not be defined by systems that simply retrieve information. It will be defined by AI that can navigate complex questions, work across organisational knowledge and deliver answers where people already work,” said John Ainsworth, EVP and General Manager, Application and Data Platform at Progress Software.
“The latest release of Progress Agentic RAG allows organisations to more easily address increasingly complex questions by building on its strong foundation of delivering trusted AI experiences that drive successful business outcomes,” Ainsworth continued.
The new Microsoft Teams application, available through the Microsoft Store, brings AI responses with source citations into chats and channels. It is designed to let employees access enterprise knowledge without leaving their existing collaboration workflows, while retaining current permissions and governance controls.
The Smart Agent can break complex queries into sub-questions, retrieve information from indexed content, MCP-connected applications and web sources, and evaluate results until it has gathered sufficient information. This is intended to reduce the need for organisations to develop custom logic for routing queries across different systems.
The WordPress plugin gives administrators more control over how website content is indexed and refreshed. By preserving content structure, metadata and taxonomy information, it aims to improve retrieval quality and keep AI responses aligned with updated material.
Existing Agentic RAG customers can access all three capabilities using their current indexed content, access controls and quality framework. The company said the updates do not require reindexing, rebuilding data pipelines or making architectural changes.
