Manila, Philippines – Globe has entered into a collaboration with Grab to improve mobile network optimisation by gathering real-world connectivity data across Metro Manila.
Through this initiative, everyday journeys undertaken by Grab driver-partners are used to collect live information on signal strength and network reliability, enabling continuous assessment of performance under typical urban conditions.
By drawing on Grab’s extensive pool of drivers, Globe is able to observe network behaviour across a wide range of routes, traffic situations and times of day.
“This partnership gives us clarity from the ground up. By working with Grab and its dedicated fleet of driver-partners, we’re able to see how our network performs in real life and use that data to make meaningful improvements for their drivers and our customers,” Eric Tanbauco, Vice President of Consumer Mobile Business at Globe, commented.
Over the course of the data collection period, more than one hundred Grab driver-partners recorded upwards of 20,000 network samples. This provided a practical, on-the-ground view of coverage and service quality, including insights from densely populated and previously unmeasured locations.
The approach allowed for the identification of areas with weaker connectivity and supported more precise benchmarking using dynamic, real-time information gathered during actual trips.
The findings are expected to inform joint efforts between Globe and Grab to improve network performance in ways that directly affect everyday digital activities, such as ride-hailing and delivery services.
The initiative also contributes to enhancing the experience of Grab driver-partners by supporting more reliable navigation and smoother application functionality. This dual benefit is intended to strengthen both user satisfaction and operational efficiency within the broader digital mobility ecosystem.
The partnership reflects Globe’s ongoing focus on improving network dependability to support wider participation in the digital economy, using data-driven insights derived from real-world usage.
