Singapore – Deel has introduced a workforce security platform designed to detect identity fraud during recruitment and throughout employment, with coverage across more than 150 countries.
Deel has launched Deel Security, a platform that aims to identify and prevent workforce identity fraud from the initial job application through the employee lifecycle.
The launch comes amid growing concerns about fraudulent job applications and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to create false identities. In July 2026, the FBI and agencies from ten other countries warned that North Korean operatives were using stolen identities, forged documents and AI-generated personas to gain employment at companies. The following month, the FBI confirmed that one such individual had worked remotely inside a US federal agency.
The US Department of Justice had also exposed a scheme involving North Korean IT workers who obtained positions at more than 300 US companies using 68 stolen identities.
Research commissioned by Deel and conducted among 1,011 HR professionals in the UK and US found that 66% of organisations had experienced an increase in suspicious or potentially fraudulent remote worker applications over the previous 12 months. Meanwhile, 93% of HR leaders expressed concern about deepfake or AI-generated workers, while 34% said their existing identity checks were no longer sufficient.
The research also found that suspicious applicants were reported more frequently in IT (75%), defence (72%) and cryptocurrency (71%).
Separate industry findings have highlighted the potential scale of the issue. Gartner predicts that one in four job candidate profiles worldwide will be fake by 2028. Meanwhile, 89% of HR hiring managers surveyed by First Advantage said they planned to introduce background screening and identity verification solutions within the next two years.
“Fraud comes in layers, and it is changing fast. AI has made fake resumes, deepfakes, and stolen identities cheap to produce and hard to spot,” said Alex Bouaziz, Co-founder and CEO at Deel.
“The threat does not end at the offer, either. Most vendors verify identity at one point in the process. Deel Security protects every layer, from the first application through the full employee lifecycle,” Bouaziz continued.
Deel Security analyses risk signals across CVs, digital footprints, interviews and identity documents. Its capabilities include flagging deepfakes and proxy interviewers, matching live selfies against government-issued identification before an employment offer is made, and conducting further identity checks at critical points after hiring.
The platform integrates with Deel’s applicant tracking system (ATS) and other recruitment systems. It also connects with identity management tools such as Okta, allowing recruitment and security teams to access risk signals within their existing workflows. Each verification is supported by an exportable audit trail.
The company said the platform is designed to support human review rather than replace it. High-risk flags include explainability reports and are reviewed by a Deel fraud expert, while final hiring and security decisions remain with the customer.
The platform uses technology from Clarity, an AI security company acquired by Deel in July 2026. It has also been used within Deel’s own recruitment process.
