Asia Pacific – Commvault, a data security and software firm, has recently announced that it has appointed Gareth Russell as its new field chief technology officer of security for Asia-Pacific.

This strategic appointment follows the company’s commitment to expanding its technical expertise in data security and cyber resilience to a broader range of customers and partners in the region.

Gareth brings nearly 15 years of experience in IT-related roles, with his most recent role as the managing director and global head of identity and access management and data protection at Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore. He also spent more than eight years at Accenture and seven years in Queensland government departments.

For this position, he will be responsible for strengthening the company’s cyber resilience strategy and helping them safeguard against the growing number and complexity of cyber threats.

Talking about his appointment, Gareth said, “I am excited to bring my experience to Commvault, especially at a time when cyber risks are intensifying in our region. My focus will be on enhancing cyber resilience strategies, including helping organisations across APAC strengthen their recovery capabilities.”

“These days, when it comes to cyberattacks, it’s not a matter of if but when, and I look forward to working with enterprises to advance their cyber readiness and preparedness,” he further explained.

Martin Creighan, vice president for APAC at Commvault, also said, “We have made significant strides in recent months to assemble a senior team with unparalleled skills and experience. Gareth’s appointment furthers the expertise we can provide to our customers and partners as they work to keep their data safe and secure.”
