Bengaluru, India – An automation-led application management framework has gone live at Axis Bank, covering core banking systems, cards, payments, and several other business verticals under a five-year agreement with Cognizant.

The programme, known as AMS 2.0, is designed to strengthen delivery governance whilst accelerating automation across application support services.

According to Cognizant, the model is built to enhance service reliability and cost efficiency, whilst also enabling scalability and standardised processes across the bank’s operations.

Governance, compliance and operational discipline sit at the centre of the framework, the company says, reflecting the heightened regulatory expectations placed on large financial institutions.

Under the agreement, Cognizant will support systems spanning several of Axis Bank’s core business verticals. These include branch and operations, cards, corporate banking and treasury, core platforms and payments, finance and accounting, retail and wholesale banking, and data platforms and integration.

The initiative sits within Axis Bank’s wider technology transformation strategy, which is focused on building an IT operating model that is scalable, resilient and future-ready.

Avinash Raghavendra, Group Head – Information Technology & Retail Operations at Axis Bank, said the programme reflects the bank’s ongoing efforts to modernise its operations.

“The implementation of AMS 2.0 is part of Axis Bank’s efforts to build a more resilient, scalable, and automation enabled operations model. Cognizant has worked closely with the Bank during this transition to support a complex application environment. We look forward to collaborating with Cognizant for Application Management Services (AMS) to enhance operational effectiveness and support the Bank’s evolving business and technology needs,” Raghavendra said.

Ganesh Ayyar, President – Asia Pacific & Japan at Cognizant, described the collaboration as central to the company’s regional strategy. “We are pleased to collaborate with Axis Bank as part of its AMS 2.0 initiative.”

“Our teams are focused on supporting the bank’s application management requirements through disciplined service delivery, governance-led operations and the responsible use of automation to improve run stability and efficiency,” Ayyar further explained.

The announcement comes as banks across the region continue to lean on automation and managed services to handle increasingly complex application environments, whilst keeping a tight rein on operational costs.
