Manila, Philippines – Chevron Philippines has recently announced the graduation of its scholars from the AWS re/Start programme, completing their digital training in cloud computing. This marks the first time the company is supporting cloud computing skills.
In this initiative, 48 students successfully graduated from the 50 qualified scholars selected by Edukasyon.ph from across the country. These scholars met face-to-face for the first time to celebrate their graduation after excelling in their coursework.
Graduates of the said programme will now possess the technical skills needed to design, manage, and optimise cloud infrastructures; a capability increasingly sought after by employers.
Launched late last year in partnership with Edukasyon.ph, the program focused on providing cloud computing training to underprivileged youth.
Talking about the opportunity, Kymberlyn Valbuena, the top-notcher of the graduating batch, said, “When I saw the programme on social media, I immediately applied, though I wasn’t sure if I was qualified. If you are having doubts, I would like to encourage you just to try [AWS re/Start] because it is open for everyone regardless of their background.”
“I truly appreciate and value the programme sponsored by Chevron. I did not only gain technology knowledge but also personal skills such as communicating and socialising with other people,” she added.
Meanwhile, Raissa Bautista, senior corporate affairs advisor at Chevron, said, “The AWS re/Start program is Chevron’s first social investment (SI) programme in the digital sphere, and it fills us with much pride to see our dear scholars break boundaries and thrive in the field of technology. Our scholars’ unwavering resolve and talent in cloud computing will undoubtedly take them to great places. It truly goes to show how far determination and proper support can get you.”
“We believe our scholars will go places because of their talent and persistence to learn and work. Chevron looks forward to seeing these students turn from learners to professionals and use their newly developed knowledge and skills to create impactful changes in our future,” explained Raissa.
Tejas Vashi, global leader at AWS re/Start, also said, “AWS re/Start brings “net-new” talent into the workforce, establishing a win-win-win scenario for individuals to launch successful careers in cloud, organisations to increase their competitive edge with in-demand talent, and communities to thrive and grow. We are proud to work with Edukasyon.ph and Chevron Philippines Inc. to build the diverse, robust cloud workforce of the future, enabling organisations to accelerate their innovation with the AWS Cloud.”
