Costco launches official JD.com flagship store under exclusive China e-commerce partnership

Beijing, China – Costco has launched its official flagship store on JD.com as part of a new strategic partnership that makes the Chinese e-commerce platform the retailer’s sole official online partner in China.

Announced on July 22, the partnership combines Costco’s product range with JD.com’s nationwide supply chain and logistics network, enabling customers across China to order Costco products online with delivery available as fast as the same day in eligible areas.

The flagship store, which began trial operations in late May, currently offers around 700 products across categories including snacks, food staples, personal care, beauty, household paper products, and nutritional supplements. According to the companies, the online storefront attracted more than 30 million visitors and nearly 200,000 followers during its first month of pilot operations. Products under Costco’s private-label Kirkland Signature brand, including its pistachios, also recorded strong demand, resulting in repeated inventory restocking.

The online store offers fulfillment for orders starting from RMB99 (approximately US$13.80), while customers can make purchases without holding an offline Costco membership card. The companies said the initiative is intended to make Costco’s products more accessible beyond the locations of its physical warehouse stores in China.

“Partnering with JD.com marks a pivotal step in scaling Costco’s business in China by transcending the physical footprint of our membership warehouses,” said Costco China. “Leveraging JD.com’s established online platform and extensive logistics network enables us to break regional limitations, extend our reach into broader markets, and efficiently deliver Costco’s signature merchandise and service value to consumers nationwide.”

A spokesperson for JD Super, JD Retail’s online supermarket business, said the partnership aligns with the platform’s customer base.

“JD.com reaches over 700 million active users who prioritise both premium quality and value—a demographic that seamlessly aligns with Costco’s customer base,” the spokesperson said. “By leveraging our omni-channel marketing resources and nationwide supply chain, we look forward to helping inject new vitality into Costco’s growth in China.”

The companies said they plan to expand the range of products available online, strengthen supply chain coordination, explore customised product offerings, and introduce additional member benefits as part of the partnership.

The announcement comes as Costco marks its 50th anniversary this year, with both companies saying they will continue to focus on enhancing the online shopping experience for consumers across China.
